A house’s or any building’s roof plays an important role in covering and preserving the structure. As a result, as a home owner or an entrepreneur who owns a house, it is critical that you choose the type of shingles you would use for your roof with great care.
Roof shingles are various types of roofing materials “Individual overlapping elements make up the roof covering. These are usually flat rectangular shapes that are laid in rows without the side edges overlapping, with a single layer to ensure a water-resistant result.”
Various types of roof shingles are currently available on the market. Here are a few examples:
shingles made of asphalt –
Composite shingles are another name for asphalt shingles. This form of roof shingle is common among homeowners because it is inexpensive and simple to instal. They can last up to 30 years and need little upkeep. They’re also fireproof and won’t crack easily if the roofer steps on them during construction. Asphalt shingles are available in a wide range of colours and shapes. Asphalt shingles come in two varieties:
Organic – These asphalt shingles are often made of waste paper that has been soaked with asphalt to make it waterproof, then coated with adhesive asphalt and embedded with ceramic granules.
Fibreglass shingles have a glass fibre reinforcement mat made of wet, random-laid fibreglass bonded with urea-formaldehyde resin as a base coat.
Wood shingles – In the past, wooden shingles were the most common roofing material. Perhaps this is due to the abundance of trees many years ago, and the lightweight and easy-to-install nature of wood shingles. Wood shingles have a smooth finish and are cut to a specific size, giving them a distinct appearance. Wood, on the other hand, needs further upkeep due to its susceptibility to insects and rot.
Cedar shingles come in a variety of shades, including honey, cinnamon, and silvery grey. They are very attractive and give the structure a royal appearance. However, as opposed to other forms of shingles, these shingles have the least amount of fire resistance. To avoid fading in a short period of time, they need routine care and maintenance. In order to extend the longevity of cedar shingles, they must be treated prior to installation.
Metal roof shingles – Metal roof shingles were once considered unusual. It’s possible that this is due to the fact that metal shingles can be very costly. It is, however, gaining popularity as a result of its durability and safety. It can also withstand a variety of weather conditions, including rain, hail, high winds, and snow. These shingles are also immune to fire and aren’t susceptible to mildew, rot, or insects. Since they are made of recycled materials, most metal roof shingles are environmentally friendly. Painted aluminium and steel are the most common metals for metal roof shingles.
